Being questioned by a friend as to what is my profession, designing or advertising, i got a sense of confusion prevailing in the minds of people related to this field. The question that never occured to me as i looked at what i was doing as a creative solution to a problem. Not just designing or advertising or business. And not to forget the technology, which is also playing a major part as an offered solution.
I think we need to get above this segregation and work towards the amalgamation of these terms. Only then can we justify campaigns like Nike +, Sony Walkman Project. One as a art person needs to understand copy, technology, design, business, and the entire process gone under a campaign to make a campaign a hit. And it applies to all the associated people working on the project. It’s the idea that speaks, don’t stop yourself by drawing a line for your role in it. With thinking progressing rapidly, we need to be have a good creative and business health to be there, do that.
So, what profession are you in? Art, copy, technology, business, or something else?

I buy this point, the lines have blurred like anything! And its not about being a multi-tasker (somehow i believe that people who multi task, do it out of compulsion). Its about enjoying the various aspects that are inter-related to communication, I THINK U CAN SAY THAT U WORK FOR COMMUNICATION DESIGN…same goes for me!
Hey I totally agree with the post …However this dilemma is not restricted to just Art or Design. I get to hear that all the time …Are u client servicing or creative ?…I find it silly and often reply back saying that I service the client and I think I am creative enough to evaluate and sell good creativity that will reach out to the consumer and make him take action. I believe in gaining knowledge and involving myself in every aspect of communication to ensure what we are finally reaching out to the consumer is what we truly believe in.
I am with u on this one !!
Cheers !
